Remote Online Notarization (RON)
Remote Online Notarization (RON) is the process of notarizing a document remotely using electronic signatures, identity verification, audio-visual communication, and digital notarial journal and record-keeping technologies. Here’s how it works
Electronic Signatures
Instead of physically signing a paper document, signers use electronic signatures. These are legally valid and secure.
Identity Verification
The signer appears before a commissioned notary online via two-way audio-video technology (usually called the Platform). The notary verifies the signer’s identity remotely.
Audio-Visual Communication
The notary and signer interact in real time through a webcam or other secure audio-video channels. The notary observes the signing process and ensures compliance with legal requirements.
Digital Notarial Journal
Notaries maintain a digital record of the notarization, including details like date, time, and parties involved.
RON offers convenience, saves time, and allows anyone with an internet connection to get documents signed and notarized online.
